Pop-up Cemetery at Meeting House Lawn

Spirits and others told their stories on the lawn of the Worthington Meeting House.
To solve the challenge of limited parking at Berlin’s smaller cemeteries, we came up with the idea of hosting a “cemetery tour” on the grounds of the Worthington Meeting House. Member and talented artist Janice Jacobs created remarkably realistic faux gravestones based on actual stones found in Berlin cemeteries. First used in a display at the Berlin Fair Historical Museum Barn, they were so convincing that some visitors asked, “How did you get permission to borrow the gravestones?”
It made perfect sense to reuse them for living history programs, pairing the stones with costumed interpreters who share the stories of former Berlin residents from long ago. These cemetery tours have proven to be extremely popular with visitors.
